This was a pretty cute rom-com that I liked the idea of but the story didnt quite get there for me. I liked the story but it's not something that I would read again.

While I usually love a book about a robot and a robot boyfriend sounds right up my alley, I was a little disappointed with this read. I think it was an enjoyable read, but while taking place it the modern day, it came off like a rom-com that might have existed in the 90’s. The way the main character’s family treated her like they had never really met her before and that the expectations were so dated that it just didn’t feel modern. The way technology like Facebook was mentioned a lot as well will really keep this book from becoming a timeless classic. I don’t think I’d reread, but it was a fine enough time.

Maybe it’s my mood but I just couldn’t get into this one and I really wanted to.

Such an odd story. The main character was completely self-involved and although the text called her on it I wanted more introspection. I felt bad for poor robot Ethan being turned off and put in a closet, I was surprised at how little anyone in the story grappled with the ethics or morality of AI.

This book has some really great parts. I love the women in STEM. I also love the journey of self discovery.
I must admit that I’d hoped the dr might be the answer.

This book was fun to read but I honestly can’t decide on a true rating for it. Overall, I find myself disagreeing with a lot of the reviews:

1. I thought Ethan had a fine amount of personality and loved when he was on the page

2. Though we’ll written, I pretty much despised her family the whole time, and their change of heart at the end did not convince me

One thing I will say is that I ended up feeling like Ethan was done a huge disservice. Removing him from having a relationship with Kelly is one thing - I completely understand that. But stuffing him in a closet just felt… dirty. And she legitimately didn’t care, like, at all, and I just… why? He could’ve easily been adapted to the first Confibot model and used in the project. I just felt so bad for him.

Anyways yeah, this book left me feeling confused and I tiny bit bereft. I love robots and androids and stuff, and immediately bought this when I saw it in B&N. Now? It was enjoyable, so I don’t regret it, but I just really wish some things were handled differently.
