When the president's daughter, Alli is kidnapped, there is only one person the president trusts to get Alli back. That person is Jack McClure, a ATF agent. Jack's daughter Emma was friends with Alli. Emma died in a car accident. Jack realized early on in his life that he had dyslexia but he won't let that stop him from getting Alli back. Jack and his partner Nina proceed to learn what happened to Alli, so they start at the place where she was kidnapped...school. While digging around in the bushes, Jack and Nina stumble across a girl's body. The girl ends up not being Alli but on the girl's hand was Alli's ring. Jack now knows he is dealing with one twisted person. What Jack will soon discover is that the kidnapper just may be someone he knows well.

Jack may have came from the wrong side of the tracks but his street smarts are just what he needs to rescue Alli. Alli showed that she was brave and just because she is the president's daughter, she did not act spoiled. The fact that Alli was just a normal girl helped me like her as a character and hope that Jack saved her. The storyline for First Daughter has enough plotting and scheming to make both democrats and republicans happy. No really though the plot for this book keep me on my toes. Once I started reading First Daughter I couldn't stop. After reading this book I may try reading one of the Bourne books written by Mr. Van Lustbader.

(Slight spoiler alert - nothing you don't read in the first chapter or two though.) Ah, the promise of this was so much better than the execution. Although it is the first in a series it felt more like the second - too much missing backstory (or backstory written like it was being explained as a reminder of what happened in previous books). As in finding typical with this type of genre, there is a lot of coincidence (the hero's past being connected to the crime), almost too much for me to handle. I also would have liked more about the crime, and the stokholm syndrome that Alli experiences (because it was a very short time she was kidnapped for). I probably won't look up the rest of the series.

I like my novels to run in good chronological order with back stories being told in a simple and easy to follow manner. This book fails on theses. Telling the back story of the main character, Jack McClure, is done in the most frustrating and confusing way. You could transition from one chapter to the next and suddenly you've jumped back 25 years. You never knew where the next chapter was going to take you. I dislike this style of writing so much. It might be fine if you were to sit down and read the entire book in one sitting but not for me.

This book is full of false leads and double bluffs just to confuse you and I'm left wonder what is the point of the whole story. There was too many dull theorising about religion, the meaning of life, god, ghosts, souls and spirit. Just when it would start to get going it would get stuck in theses topics like a car in mud. The real perpetrator is always the last person you would think it was and is never the one you are lead to believe it actually is.

I found it boring, drawn out and inconclusive.

Barely 3. I liked the story, but it was terribly hard to follow at times.

Overall, not bad. I've been reading these types of books for far too long... they are becoming predictable. However, I tend to enjoy these none the less.
