Fables: Compendium One by Bill Willingham

Dear god this is good. Bill Willingham writes plain and simple and at first I was put off, where is the florid poetry I expected from these tales? How wrong I was just how perfect appropriate and asy to chew through his dialogue is. Mark Buckingham produces stunning images that evoke mundane fairytale to the extreme. The clever page borders are unconscious ways of grounding you in the myriad crisscrossing stories. And by the end of this tome, boy you'll just eat up how much they twist the tales you know and give you exactly what you want. So clever without rewriting the rulebook. Strong recommend.

Pretty cool story that combines all these different fables to one world that makes sense and has really interesting characters.

The author has problems writing anyone who isn't a white man. But the worldbuilding is fun and the pacing is solid-ish enough to turn off your brain and read.

I quite enjoyed this series so far and will continue it. Snow White was a bit too boring as a main character but I do like the last thing she did up at the farm. They also softened her up after a bit which was better.
