Ik had het boek/stripverhaal gekocht omdat ik een enorme fan ben van Chabons [b:The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay|3985|The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay|Michael Chabon|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1503806495l/3985._SY75_.jpg|2693329], met weinig hoop op veel goed, maar dit draaide veel beter uit dan verwacht. Een zeer geslaagde aanvulling op Chabons boek, en waarschijnlijk zelfs behoorlijk genietbaar op zich.

I picked up the first issue of this series a 2 years ago and finally got to find out what happened. Fun story and gotta love the James Jean cover!

A must for Clevelanders and comic book fans, regardless of if you're a "Kavalier and Clay" fan. This is its own story, and like "Kavalier and Clay" it explores the world of comic book creation, this time the world of modern indie creators. It is steeped in local Cleveland scenery and lore, shouting out the Cinematheque, Harvey Pekar, and even the Free Stamp! Non-Clevelanders may not squee like I did, but local color certainly doesn't hurt a story!
Also the plot explores the realities of crime and vigilantes as our normal people find themselves experiencing near-heroic capers in their quest to publicize their comic book.
I would definitely read a sequel or twelve.

it was good. i could pick a fight with the ending a bit -- original stories are better than building off an existing work says the book which is basically kavalier and clay fanfiction -- but i don't think he meant it that way and honestly i'm a bit too tired to be combative right now. 3.5 stars

I found the book interesting, but nothing really special in the end which disappointed me. It may have been the final chapter, and maybe even the final page of the book was what finally made me annoyed with it. The final page was just an over the top and expected cliche, and I guess I expected more from BKV.

Really enjoyed this, even knowing nothing about the Escapist. The graphical switches worked well, though I wish we could have seen more of the darker art, my favorite. Good quick story, well worth the time.

Having loved [b:The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay|3985|The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay|Michael Chabon|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1226235457s/3985.jpg|2693329], I had to pick this up when I saw it remaindered in a store. It was fun, as expected. Nothing special, but fun. The best parts are the excerpts for the "new run" of The Escapist. The art there is stunning - it has the flavor of being 40s and noir, while being thoroughly modern. It sort of reminds me of the best art in Sandman but with more extra flourishes (as befits this kind of story). Too bad the rest of the story doesn't live up to the promise of those comics interludes.
Still, worth reading once if you happen to come across it.
