I figured out why it was so hard to describe this series. This is a character focused book but the events of the story are both character and plot driven. This combination makes for an interesting read, and leaves you thinking about the book once it is over.

Unlike the previous book this had multiple POVs that we see the events of the story unfold through. Some are familiar characters we have seen or heard about from the previous book, and some are completely brand new. I loved following all the different perspectives as everyone has to adjust to their new lives and way of living that they have been thrusted into.

This book builds skillfully on the concepts from the last one, and the multiple POVs are a definite improvement (it's actually really interesting to see how everyone else sees Kaaro). I loved the webs of plots and relationships between the characters, but there was a little too much gratuitous sexual violence for me to give it 4 stars. Like yes I get the purpose of showing the "rape camp" run by the criminal army but the blase way it's described was a little much.

Overall though, great sequel.
