Every woman I'd ever known felt like a copy of a copy of a copy when I met Evangeline. I'd heard men say things like that, heard actors say things like that in movies-that everything-was-black-and-white-until-he-met-her moment, then suddenly ultralight, vivid, eye-popping color. Evangeline was my Technicolor moment, the big reveal, the screaming colors so bright it felt as if I should hold my ears.

This book....this book broke me. It fixed me and it broke me. I'm so in love with all these glorious, wonderful, colorful characters. All of them their own shade of fixed and broken. The love on these pages is real....the grief, raw and painful. My heart is splayed for all to see the bleeding going on inside it. Absolutely loved this. All. Of. It. Thank you Leesa Cross-Smith.

I remember thinking something bad was going to happen eventually because everything was so perfect. I was so happy and so in love and this is Earth. Those things don't last because they're not meant to.

He is gone and I know I will spend the rest of my life fruitlessly searching for him.

Evi is a stunning churchgoing ballerina who lives in Louisville, Kentucky. Eamon is a police officer who loves his family, friends, and Louisville community. Evi and Eamon instantly fall in love, leading to a whirlwind romance rich in love and too good to be true. Two years later, tragedy strikes when Eamon dies in the line of duty mere days before his first child is born.

Eamon’s adopted brother, Dylan, swoops in to comfort his brother’s widow and newborn son while navigating his own grief and painful past. The relationship between Dylan and Evi becomes complicated, tender, and steeped in love that cannot possibly be explained in words.

Leesa Cross-Smith’s writing is lush, birthing characters who are both compelling and simple in the most relatable way. People need to stop sleeping on this gifted author! What a debut piece of literary genius!

A great debut

I really enjoyed this book. It was so well written and I loved how it’s told in three different but connecting voices. The pacing of it was a little slow to me but i still enjoyed the story. Although I’m not surprised by how things turned out, I kind of wished they hadn’t. I cannot wait to discuss this with my bookclub to hear their thoughts

I absolutely loved this book! The writing was so beautiful, the story was heart wrenching.... I couldn't put it down. I'm going to be thinking about this one for a bit.

This was an excellent book! So well-written that I could feel the emotions as I was reading. I felt that the characters and plot were endearing but not cloying. I'm disappointed that I didn't buy my own copy (I checked it out from the library)

I don't drink whiskey, I drink rum and I savored the words and characters of Whiskey & Ribbons like a good bottle of my favorite. Can't wait for everyone to read it.

These characters will be with me for a long time. I am certain that if I met Evi or Dalton or Frances or Cassidy or Eamon i would know them immediately and be able to have a conversation with them. I am drawn to books that explore character and use the plot as a device to do so. For me, characters have to be distinct and their actions consistent within the framework built for them. Leesa Cross-Smith does this beautifully. Her descriptions of people and settings are complete without the heavy handedness of too many adjectives and metaphors.
Leesa is from Louisville, just an hour or so from my town of Lexington and she captures the region beautifully. I was fortunate to meet her at a local book store, dragged there for a reading of an author I'd never heard of promoting a book of the same by my daughter, on a work night none the less. As we drove to the book store I warned my 19 year old daughter, "I am not buying a book tonight! Don't even ask!" After 5 minutes of hearing Leesa reading, I whispered to my daughter,"we're getting it."
She writes with literary quality in a very accessible voice. I saved reading the book for my Spring Break and I read the whole thing in one day. I stopped only to run to the store to get some whiskey because, well it fit the mood! Whiskey & Ribbons is an incredible debut novel and I can't wait to read more from Leesa Cross-Smith

This was beautiful in its multi-layered presentation of family and dreams and love and grief. I loved the way the voices and stories converged.

I picked this book up from the library on a whim, and I don't think I'm the target audience for it. It seemed a decent enough book- I found the romance a little rushed, and felt that Noah wasn't a character so much as a plot device, since the "present day" story happens while he is away. This story was sweet but slow paced. I really liked Dalton, was ambivalent about Evi and Eamon.
