Book 1 of 2023: Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare.

The play is a tragedy that was first performed around 1607. Semi historical, the plot centers on Cleopatra and Mark Antony from the time of the Sicilian revolt to Cleopatra's suicide during the War of Actium. The main antagonist is Octavius Caesar, one of Antony's fellow triumvirs of the Second Triumvirate and the first emperor of the Roman Empire. The tragedy is mainly set in the Roman Republic and Ptolemaic Egypt.

I read this play with my Shakespeare group. I loved getting to hear everyone’s opinions of the action. Everyone lost respect for our 2 main characters who seemed to run hot with passion, or cold with hate. I found this highly paradoxical considering my group consists of teenagers. Oh, the irony!

If you want adults acting like ridiculously self-centered and immature teenagers then this is the book for you.

A horny idiot play, and not even a horny idiot play with as many memorable, great lines as Romeo and Juliet. (Also, these fools are adults! GET IT TOGETHER.)

Never and still not my favorite, but I'm about to see it live, so maybe that will improve my opinion of it.

My favorite work of Shakespeare. Deep, emotional, and of course ultimately tragic.
