Overall an interesting and fun read. While predictable is some parts and funny for some of the over sexualized language this story was still enjoyable.

Summer reading book reviews, book #7, "The Clockwork Dagger" by Beth Cato.... An imaginative steampunk fantasy written with wit and intelligence. Filled with action and intrigue, I liked the capable, courageous heroine, and enjoyed the romance element. And I have a soft spot for airships. (N.B. I recommend Kenneth Oppel's "Airborn" to others fond of airships.) I look forward to the sequel.

This is very sad. I have had this book on my shelf for a long while. It was just staring at me begging me to pick it up and read it. I finally found a chance to pick up the book. First off I have to say that the whole reason I was really looking forward to reading this book is because it has been a while since I have read a steampunk story. I just have fallen in love with this world and am always interested to see how the different authors envision the world. Which I thought the author did a very good job of the world in this book. My biggest issue was that I could not find anything appealing about any of the characters. The environment is not the only thing that makes up the book, the other half is the characters. Plus, I felt that Octavia's abilities were muted and were not as strongly showcased as I would have liked them to be.

I purchased this based on an old blog entry by Kevin Hearne. When I ran out of my typical series to read I grabbed this in my last binge.

This was a fun book. An interesting universe being built and lots of political intrigue as witnessed by the pawns instead of the kings and queens.

Looking forward to the rest in the series and now have a new regular to add to the rotation whenever something new comes out

A fun read. A fantasy with smart and logical worldbuilding that incorporates elements of steampunk, romance, and political intrigue. The main character being a magical healer is an interesting twist on the fantasy genre and makes for some interesting situations and moral conundrums. Worth a read.

What a great read. Charming, zippy prose. Great steampunk world. The last third is tense and action packed. Left open for a very interesting sequel. Loved it from cover to cover.

I love books about interesting female healers, especially cool healing ideologies and kick-ass heroine healers. Octavia Leander is one of my new favorite characters, along with Alonzo. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the second.

The plot was twisty and while there were some people who I was pretty certain were bad guys there were others I didn’t suspect at all. I liked that it was a mystery on an airship for a period of time.

I adored Leaf. I could really picture him in my head. I thought Viola Stout was a very interesting character, and an unexpected one. Highly recommended.
