One little bird builds a next, but another bird takes it over. The bird keeps building, but every nest gets taken away. After everyone falls and all the nests fall, all the animals build a nest for everyone. And the bird finally builds a next just for them.

Reviewed from a library copy.

I liked this book far more than I thought I would. It's about a bird and its building a nest. Only problem is.....other animals, like elephants and giraffes, and meerkats think it is their nest.

The book is funny. Yet it also has heart. It's a good book about sharing and coming together. And compromise at the end.

This is a weird book. I do like all the animals and the industrious bird, but I'm unclear on what the moral is here.

Fun story, one I think young readers will enjoy. There were a couple of transitions that were off for me - seemed like there was a page missing that explained how the story got from one place to another.

I'm really into Andrea Tsurumi's illustrations - I like the looseness of the line, and how the animals manage to be both very realistic and expressively cartoony. The colors here are especially well done. It's all the stuff I enjoyed about the illustrations in Crab Cake, but cleaner, and with a story that's tighter and also generally makes more sense.

The story, about a little bird whose next keeps getting stolen, has a classic picture book feel. Iris isn't into the story, but she loves looking at the animals in the illustrations, and it was pretty fun to see meerkats at the zoo after seeing them in the book!

A take on [book:The Little Red Hen|867650], except Bird doesn't ask for any help, and the animals around her just take and take and take. And even when the other animals are finally shamed into creating something they all can share, Bird just wanted her own d@mn nest. So she builds it. Again.

The illustrations and timing of the book were fantastic, but the plot was a kind of Sisyphean endeavor that was exhausting to read about.

Don't know why this isn't rated higher...adorable! Adding it to my on-going list of "books-I-want-to-order-for-my-school-library" :)
