I’m glad this is over now because I’m hopeful that the third book is going to be worth it. We’ve skimmed the fat at this point (I guess?) and now we can get down to business. (I hope?)

I wish the battle scenes (I say plural referring to the 2 that have occurred in the series so far) were better developed. “A large surge of power” causing ceiling tiles to fall and walls to crumble...it’s not descriptive enough. It’s too vague. What is the power? Where is it coming from? What does it look like? Feel like? Sound like? These vague magical battles have razed The Empire to the ground...destroyed the palace...but I don’t buy it. It’s weak.

The story still doesn’t seem fully realized and, still riddled with typos and poor grammar, rushed. I think this story would have benefitted from more time spent in development. (Maybe fewer novellas that way too?)

I trudged through these first two books so I feel obligated to carry on. It feeling obligation ever a good thing with a series....?

I received this as an eARC to read for free in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to The Parliament House and M. Dalto for giving me access.

Welcome back to the Empire. Were you hoping for a happy reunion and being welcomed with open arms?

If so, this book is not for you.

Two Thousand Years (TTY) left us with a cliffhanger and now this one was a rollercoaster of twists and turns. A surprise around every corner! Literally! I am still crying over that ending.

This book is also a little slower than TTY, but Dalto still has a way to keep you interested until the last page.

Mark of the Empress does a wonderful job at subtly telling you to not to believe everything you are told. There is always a story to both sides of war.

And now, the most difficult thing for a reader to do, is to wait for book #3.

We are back in the Empire! If you thought the last book had twists and turns, there were many more here! Treyan was of course still one of my faves! There was some great world building and descriptions, too! I don’t want to get too spoilery here, but that ending!
