Ending felt rushed and incomplete. It also felt like stuff was just left unanswered.

Better than the first book, with my favourite parts of the book ending up being the parts with O’Donnell and calliope.
Again a bit too much description which slowed down the plot, but less repetitive than the first book as Lyra and Gemma are apart for most of the book.

I read it in alternating Lyra Lyra Gemma Gemma chapters, which I feel was better than the first book where I read it Lyra full and then Gemma full. In terms of the difference in how the book and story is perceived based on the way it is read is hard to judge, as I will not be rereading the books in a different way and it is hard to compare the reading experience between the 1st and 2nd books because the 2nd book builds on what was already established in replica.

Finished it pretty fast, so it is a good read

A bit of a slow start, but once it picked up I couldn’t put it down. This story was a lot of fun, and luckily, Gemma’s constant comments about her weight were dropped. I felt like this book wrapped up the story nicely.

I read it in alternating chapters, and that’s generally what I’d recommend to those who are curious.

This book was neither AMAZING, nor was it horrible. There is only one word to describe it perfectly...
Meh.

My biggest problem to the story as a whole is that I felt no connection with any of the characters. I liked what was going on, but I just couldn't find myself caring about what was happening to anyone. I felt no anger at the parts that should have upset me, no feels at sad bits, just nothing. Which is odd for me, because I am quite an emotional reader.

Would I recommend it? Sure. It was cool. I didn't dislike it. Someone else might get the connections I didn't.

Let me start out by saying: make sure to read this with alternating chapter!!
As absolutely wonderful as it was to return to the magnificent storytelling of Lauren Oliver in the most unique way possible — I’ve got some major issues with this novel. First and foremost, it was a joy to read and dive into. From flipping the book back and forth to submerge myself into the lives of the two girls, it was fantastic and plot driven and a page-turning suspense.
Yet it was all pointless. In hindsight, going through this second adventure with Lyra and Gemma, they both ended back up in the same position as before. Nothing truly changed with the world and nothing truly changed with the characters. The journey was thrilling but the result was nonexistent. This novel might as well not even have existed for the actual conclusion it wrought. And that was truly what kept this from being a 5 star novel — not the plot line or action, but it’s lack of ramifications and consequences. The resolution was eerily similar to the first novel’s, making this one feel forced and fake.

While I did enjoy the book, it really just didn't live up to its companion for me. The first book was a crazy, fast paced and creative mystery, and this one just fell flat. I think it tried a bit too hard to live up to the awesomeness of Replica, and ended up feeling way too similar. I did have a good time reading it though (even though it took me sooooo long)!

I read Lauren Oliver's BEFORE I FALL when it first came out, and I've loved her ever since. RINGER is two novels in one, Gemma's story and Lyra's story happening at the same time. I'm glad that it's published as a "flip to read the other side" instead of alternating chapters, so readers can choose to go back and forth, but folks like me with attention issues (who's talking again?) can just read one and then the other.

I love science fiction like this that makes readers ask questions like "what makes us human?" without the buffer of faraway fantasy. The story feels more immediate and dangerous. I hadn't read the first book in the series REPLICA before I read this (*got this as an advance reading copy*) and it didn't interfere with my enjoyment of this book. For teens who love dystopia with powerful young women, this is fantastic.
