Dang you abridged books!!! You actually did a decent job in the last book, [b:Separation of Power|937249|Separation of Power (Mitch Rapp, #5)|Vince Flynn|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1314830847s/937249.jpg|978952]. But this one you really dropped the ball. How do you edit out the whole part when Mitch does that rescue mission in the Philippines and gets shot in the butt? Plus how did Rapp kill General Moro? So I don't know if this story was sub-par because of the crappy abridgment or the actual story itself but I didn't like this one as much. 2.5 stars.

I guess this book takes place after 9/11 sometime but I don't know how long after. And how long has Hayes been president. Seems like longer than four years and they're talking about another term.

Yeah, Anna is getting really annoying. I wish Vince didn't have a love interest for Rapp in these books, at least this early in the game. I liked him in the first two (chronological) books where he was just doing his job and fighting with Victor. Speaking of which where is Victor at?

What's going to happen with Friedman now?

"Where.is.Harvery.Dent.Stan.Hurley.? Have you seen him? (Shakes man's head) No."

*4 stars*
6th novel down and I am still not sick of Mitch Rapp!

As special advisor on counterterrorism to CIA director Dr. Irene Kennedy, Rapp is ready to fight the war on terrorism from CIA headquarters rather than the front line. That is, until a platoon of Navy SEALs, sent to the Philippines to save an American family kidnapped by radical Islamic terrorists, is caught in a deadly ambush. The mission had been top secret -- so who told the enemy? All evidence points to the State Department and the Philippine embassy. But a greater threat still lurks. An unknown assassin working closely with the highest powers in the Middle East is bent on igniting war.

Okay, I feel like I need. to confess here. I. Liked. The. Bad. Guy.I know! It's terrible of me *David* is hellbent on the birth of a Palestinian State, and ending the bloodshed between the Palestinians and the Israeli's. However, is war the only way to achieve peace? I really felt for this character. Unlike Rapp, who has claimed several times to enjoy being an assassin, David is clearly torn over what he feels he needs to do to finally achieve peace in the Middle East. I really enjoyed his character and
think the way he was killed off was kinda lazy. I think you had invested so much time into building this character that we deserved something more from him!

Again, Anna is really doing my head in. In this novel they are married- WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS? SHE IS ALL WRONG FOR MITCH!!>- and she is being her normal whinging self. "Where are you going... it's to dangerous... you're married now... blah blah blah." The same issues they have always had. I am bored of it to be honest. I really hate this relationship.

Overall, not another bad Mitch Rapp novel.

STORY

Unlike the previous Rapp novels, this one took a bit of time before I was fully invested in the story line. Once I was hooked, though, I was hooked good and couldn't stop reading. The story follows Mitch as he maneuvers his new role as a CIA adviser.

A part of what didn't snag me is this very fact: Mitch has a new role. He's married, has a wife who doesn't want him in danger, and can't just go "fix" things. It got a bit tedious but plots must move forward and characters must grow, so I can't complain much.

The story line involving the Israelis and Palestinians was super intriguing. I want more.

THEMES

As usual, the biggest themes that I took away from this book (like the others) is honor, loyalty, and courage.

These books do not shy away from hell. They do not shy away from wicked men, whether they be on the "good" side or the "bad" side. They shy away from nothing. But despite the wickedness of humanity, goodness is shown, too. We see brothers and soldiers fighting side by side, never leaving another behind. We see men doing the dirty work to protect and defend their nation they love. In the end, every bit of "good" counts.

We cannot forget to do what we can: for our family, our nation, and for our faith. These books inspire me to do what I can, even if I don't think it amounts to much.

CHARACTERS

So, Mitch and Anna are nice and all, but 1) I haven't been in a huge mood for romance and their romance isn't absolutely moving so it just ain't cuttin' it for me right now and 2) it's often grating? I mean, I get Anna is a feminist, a reporter, and an overall strong woman who won't sit like a nice, simple minded housewife while her husband goes off and gets shot in the rear end... but she's kinda annoying, too? I liked her at first but now it's just... meh. And I guess that's all my reaction to their marriage is now: meh. Which isn't a great way to feel but I've got nothing else to feel, thus far, haha.

As usual, Kennedy is a super amazing woman and I love her. I'd pay money to see a novel about her baby boy one day.

DAVID/JABRIL IS A TOTAL LOVE AND I NEEDED MORE OF HIM. I literally cheering when he gave General Hamza what he deserved.
REALLY ANGRY that he died. I mean, I could feel it coming, but NOOOO

CONTENT

Swearing. Sensual content that's probably PG 13 rated, with some rape scenes that were without consent, mentions of prostitutes, etc. A brief but graphic scene where a man is castrated after he rapes a young girl.
did I mention I love Jabril?
Drinking, drunkards, etc. Violence, descriptions of blood and wounds, etc.

OVERALL

It took a bit to care but I enjoyed the premise and Jabril very much.
