The beginning of this book was quite slow, but once the story and conflicts were in progress, I quickly remembered why I enjoy this world and its intricate politics. The themes around power and personhood were explored in new and interesting ways. I also loved the multi-perspective, particularly from Three Seagrass. It's a tense feeling to read a book where you want to root for almost everyone, despite the ways they are in conflict with each other. Solid follow-up to the first book.

1st off i do think i liked this more than book 1. i think the thing that struck me most from reading this duo was that it felt really familiar (but not in a bad way) - i can see where the author took inspiration from other sci fi classics, but was also able to make it her own & fit it within her own world. loved the depth of all the characters & how she’s able to weave in so many plot lines happening at the same time without getting the reader confused, & how she continues exploring the same core themes from book 1 but from a slightly diff perspective this time
