I liked the arc of this one, the choices the heroine made to find some way to be with her husband. A lot of world-building, which I also enjoyed, though it was heavy on the depressing/trust-no-one side for my mood. I didn’t love the dash of homophobia—super advanced aliens don’t seem to realize that even gay men can make babies the old fashioned way—but all in all this was solid, if dialled a bit too high on the bleak setting scale for me personally.
