This book started out a little slow and the book references sometimes seemed a little too much, but in the end I was won over. Fun read. Some language (I can't remember how much, though) as well as sexual references, but nothing open door.

A really slow start. Not "the novel of the year" but an enjoyable read.

Wasn’t very invested. Too many characters, kept getting distracted and just didn’t feel like reading it. It was a book club pick so I was trying to push through but when the person who chose it said she was throwing in the towel and gave us all permission to do the same, I stopped slogging.

Tahle knížka plně dostála svému zařazení do útulného žánru. Je kouzelná, miloučká a končí šťastně. Co chtít víc?
(Přidaná hodnota: skvělé tipy na další knížky)

This book was such a mixed bag for me. For sure this is a book for people who love books, and I ate that aspect of it with a spoon. I could easily identify with all the passion Sara had for books, and why she often preferred books over people. Since it's such a significant part of the book, I think it will fly straight past anyone who isn't a passionate book lover.

I also really disliked Tom. I just couldn't understand the relationship between him and Sara. He's dismissive of and often downright rude to her preferences and passions, and I couldn't see how this was supposed to be the basis for a relationship. Honestly, I would have preferred George as a match for her, since he's a great deal more sensitive and respectful of Sara's needs and problems.

I didn't care for the ending either. Most of the book is pretty grounded in reality, but the closer it got to the end, the harder I found it to suspend my disbelief. That's a shame, because I think this book really had something to say about human relationships.

Lastly, for as much as this is a book about loving books, I think it also fell short in that regard. There are academic studies that show books make people more compassionate and tolerant of others, and I wish more time had been devote to Sara finding books for people and then showing the effect those books had on them.

Enjoyed commentaries on books I already read and the original letter relationship between the two women. Just could not get in to the book......
