Overall I will give this entire series a three although there some things I didn't like. The ending was not the best but it was a satisfactory ending. Some of the characters I hated throughout the series did not survive which I liked and didn't expect them to really. There were few small surprises but nothing that blew my mind or anything.

There were a lot of moving parts to bring to a close (some of which dragged on well past their use-by date), but he did a good job of bring them together.

Well, the book ended exactly as I thought it would - terribly!

Seven books and it all comes down to a happy ending! After the plot has concluded, all the major characters get their own chapter where the author shows us what becomes of them with no time scale mentioned. The last few chapters were the most boring I have ever read at the end of any book.

I did rant about Basil Wenceslas in my book 6 review but he deserves to be mentioned again: Wow...just wow. Watching a smart, intelligent character become completely deluded over a period of 7 books was not a lot of fun because of the shallow writing. In the first couple books you only saw the good things he did and then in the rest you only saw the bad things he did. It's like Basil is a one dimensional character. And then
he dies because he gets stabbed when he tries to take on 12 guards with his 4 guards. /facepalm

Some of the plot in this book made very little sense. It just felt like the author was herding us into a nice linear path so that everything could end well. Quite disappointed with the book and series overall.

I should have stopped at book 5.

Finally, after seven books, its all over. Unfortunately, for me, this was the weakest in the series and the winding up of the story was somewhat predictable. I took a four year break between books five and six and now I remember why - it just got a bit tedious as more dangerous threats were added into the mix every time.

In essence what I'm saying is that it was just too long a tale. It was still a great story with interesting characters, cultures and aliens but one that could easily have been tightened up a bit.

At the end of it all Earth or the Terran Hanseatic League are still the bad guys but there's hope for humanity. Who knows, maybe a new tale or two could emerge as there could be a fair bit of mileage in the Ildiran or Klikiss stories.
