What a WONDERFUL BOOK! Published in 1921, it is the story of a troubled man who, in his youth, rode a mule to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, an adventure that changed his life in many ways. As as an adult, he became the director of the Department of the Interior, and, seeking release from his troubled youth, hops off the train passing through Arizona and heads, on foot, north through the desert with the aim to re-hike the canyon. Of course, there's a love interest involved, an independent and forthright young woman whose mission is to photograph the indigenous peoples and record their lives and lifestyles for posterity. This book is a definite "keeper", to be re-read and to pass on to friends who will certainly enjoy it!
