Thanks to the @kidlitexchange network for the review copy of this book - all opinions are my own.

This is the best Jumbie book yet!!! TJGR is the third book in this series, following THE JUMBIES and RISE OF THE JUMBIES. They are all three delightful and slightly spooky fantasy tales based on Caribbean folktales and classic “Jumbie” stories. Corinne, our heroine, has dealt with jumbies on land in book one and jumbies in the sea in book two - what’s next? jumbies in the sky, of course! The stakes in this book felt higher than the other two, as much of what happens is all consequences from actions Corinne has taken in the past (I LOVE it when a plan goes wrong!) We get some emotional moments between Corinne and her papa that deepen their relationship on the page and make it feel so real. Every character gets a moment to shine in this book, and it is the perfect conclusion to this series! I’ll definitely be putting it into the hands of my students when it comes out on September 3! Thanks to #kidlitexchange for passing this book along to me!

So, where to begin? Let’s start with: Wow! Tracey Baptiste with The Jumbie God’s Revenge has written a novel that I could not put down even though it was the third in the series (I have not read the other two) and I am more than a wee bit older than the target audience.

Almost immediately after we meet Corinne, her family, and friends, the novel launches into action that does not abate until the last pages.

Every culture has its myths and legends and folklore, which has been passed down for many generations. When those folklores come to life, you find out what you're capable of. A hurricane hits the Caribbean island, and immediately Corinne Le Mer knows this is no ordinary hurricane. It’s not hurricane season! When Corinne accuses a jumbie, a mythical creature with magical abilities, of creating the tropical storm, she learns the hard way there is something more dangerous than a jumbie.

Corinne has upset the balance and Huracan, the jumbie god, believes the only way to fix the balance is to create a clean slate. The damage caused is catastrophic to the island and can get much worse. Can Corinne, with her friends, help save the people of the island before it’s too late?

I adored everything about this story. It was rich in culture with beautiful characters and subplots. I would advise reading this series in order, which I did not do. I, unfortunately, have a history of doing this, but I was able to follow with no issues. The writing and storytelling were exquisite, engaging, and full of intrigue. This story is about love, consequences, redemption, and hope. I would love to read how this series begins, and I’m thrilled I was allowed to read this! To quote Corinne, “Wire bend, story end.”

I think this series is very well written Middle Grade. The stories all do a good job of standing on their own and you don't have to read the previous book to follow along.

That being said I did not enjoy this one as much as the first two.

Tracey Baptiste does a great job explaining all the Trinidadian and African mythology. And she gives great descriptions of life in Trinidad in the quiet villages. I can almost taste the juicy mangoes and smell the salty sea air. I like the fantastical world she has created better than some of the hyped YA books. I don't feel like this book topped Rise of the Jumbies though. To me that book had a strong ending and everything seemed to be resolved. The Jumbie God's Revenge struggled a little to find it's footing in the first half. While there was plenty of action in this story it was missing that creepiness present in the first story and the wonder of the 2nd. Ahe said she put her all into the 2nd book because she didnt think there would be a 3rd and I agree. The 2nd was her best work.

Still i enjoy reading about the different Jumbies and all of Corrine's friends and neighbors.

I received an arc from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

'Wire bend, story end'

Please I'm not ready to say goodbye to Corinne and friends.. Maybe a continuation of the series or I would love to see their misadventures on screen. Will be gifting this series to every likkle pickney I know cause this series should honestly be a staple in every child's reading journey.

I keep picturing Severine's twig form as Groot.
