What could possibly go wrong when a literal-minded housekeeper goes camping for the first time?

What a way to start the year! The Rogers family maid once again has an unpredictable, destructive, and ultimately positive effect on a group outing! At one point, she is even aided by two boys, the only characters of color, who have curiously heard of her and her cognitive impairment! These accomplices help her destroy all chance of camping that evening—would that I had the benefit of such help in my childhood!

!!!

(I’m staying in a friend’s childhood bedroom. The reading material is delightfully limited.)

I was reliably informed that it was nothing short of criminal to have progressed this far in life without reading the Amelia Bedelia books. A good friend recently remedied this heinous oversight in my literary education. I'm a bit past the target audience in age, but the books were cute. Probably best I didn't read them as a kid: eight-year-old Stephanie would've been irked by Amelia. "How are you old enough to be employed but still ignorant of idioms??"

Decent.
As you read you have to make your own edits to improve the pacing, the rhythm, etc., but it’s mostly good.

There are better puns in other Amelia Bedelia books.
And she has a brief tantrum, which felt odd.

Mr and Mrs. Roger’s reactions were strong in this book and raised the question of why they put up with it if she causes so much misery.

Other books make her behavior seem more juvenile and harmless.

Love Amelia Bedelia, but this one was lackluster.
