An amazing book with such a great plot. Loved the format and honestly had really good characters.

It was as hard for me to trust Moonbeam as it was for her to trust the Outsiders in this novel, but it was a fascinating ride.

This book is a must read and it's one of the most powerful books that I have read in a long time. It is an incredible survival story with a strong main character that you can't help but feel for. It's an emotional rollercoaster but still an insanely thrilling plot.

Easy to read, engaging story - I enjoyed the Before and After format - a perfect summer read.

3.5 stars. The book is split into before and after the fire. Life in the Legion and the events of the fire are slowly revealed during therapy sessions. The slow process Moonbeam goes through is very realistic. There were parts that I didnt see coming. I liked the fact that not everything has a happy ending. Overall, I enjoyed this read.

This was intense right from the start, quickly sucking readers into the story of Moonbeam, a teenager who has survived a horrific government standoff with the cult she had been living in. Scenes flip back and forth between the "after" where she is in a hospital and speaking with a doctor, and "before", where readers slowly learn along with the doctor what her life was like and the events that led to the standoff and fire.

Right from the start readers know that Moonbeam has a secret, and the way she shares info will make the reader question just how reliable a narrator she is. There are a lot of almost cliffhanger like chapters, however the pacing of the book is good keeps the narration flowing.

Occasionally, I think Moonbeam sounds a little to mature and self aware of herself and the events, and I think that the non-chronological order of the flashbacks might confuse some readers. However, the story itself it so compelling that many will just ignore the confusion and plow through.

Despite teens really liking this type of book and subject matter, it's not something that I would have picked up (although the last two books I've read on the topic of cults--this and The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly--I've really liked soo...?)

Very good. This book gives off Waco vibes and how the children that survived might have gone through.

If you like stories that are just a little bit off, you'll love this book. After the Fire puts an unbelievable spin on the aftermath of the Waco siege, proving that truth is stranger than fiction and people are never what they seem.
