Interesting continuation of the series. Wish I read the original comics first, but I still ended up liking this as is, and managed to follow the story pretty well. Art is absolutely beautiful, and the writing, of course, is amazing.

Thought this was a new start, but clearly a lot of stuff has happened in the past

As a non-reader of comics who desperately wants to be a reader, I basically judge the first volume of any series by whether or not I can understand enough of the backstory to be invested.
I understand almost nothing about the backstory of the Runaways. Which is a damn shame, because what I can infer is that these are the children of Marvel super villains who rebelled against (and possibly killed?) their parents and...er...ran away.
But some stuff happened before the start of this comic that led to a character who is kind of a grumpy bitch dying. And all of the Runaways scattered. I know little to nothing about who they are supposed to be, so it's hard to be invested.
There are a LOT of cats in here, though, and that helped.
I am genuinely intrigued, I will read volumes 2 and 3. But honestly, this didn't really lay enough groundwork for what I missed.

Is there anything Rainbow can’t write? Pretty impressed how seamlessly she’s sliding into the world of graphic novel writing.

I am just not feeling the marvel world side stories - I wanted to like the characters but could not get into the story

The Runaways are back!!!!
I'm just going to excitedly fangirl for a few months because Rainbow Rowell's reboot is awesome and it's everything I loved about the old series with new, fun awesomeness and I'm so excited.

Great story & beautiful art direction - couldn’t imagine better comeback for The Runaways.
