As someone who loves Alice in Wonderland in all forms this book hit everything it needed to and then some. The details of the characters and alices change throughout the book was chefs kiss. It can be a hard read for some as it does touch on a few gruesome and touchy subjects. Please read till at least chapter 4 before you DNF

Everyone knows of the typical plot diagram, right? Welp this author decided to make the climax of the book start within the first few chapters. The two monsters
Jabberwocky and The Rabbit
that were in nightmares had the worst final seen. I got kinda upset about
he was so weak from her stabbing him in the back & eye and just asked her to end him. Like what monster of dreams says that?! I was expecting her to go back to the comfort of her own ways. he would invite her to a tea party except the feeling of youthfulness joy were replaced with guilt & discussed.  Then dwell on it for three chapters bc this is what the whole book has been alluding towards. Also a butterfly in a jar??
but it’s the author’s choice.  Over all it was good.

This book had gripped me from the very beginning. It's so well written and I think the author did a great job at exploring the trauma etc.
I found the ending a bit unsatisfying tho tbh cause defeating the Jabberwock was so easy. But she did mention that herself and I do think it kinda fit for the book.

I really enjoyed this. I thought Henry reinvented alice in wonderland very well, with continuous references to the original story. I was extremely engaged in the narrative and found myself thinking about what might happen next when I wasn’t reading the book.

however, the representation of women in this book was very… archaic. they were given very little agency and seen as sexual objects. alice herself relies on hatcher as her protector, though she does develop beyond this. other than alice, most of the women are treated as toys. I understand that this is the purpose of the novel, but it still was difficult to stomach.

alice herself was very well characterised and I related to her a lot. her relationship with hatcher was lovely and they really understood each other.

the plot developed in a satisfying way, and I would have rated it higher, if not for
the rushed meeting with the rabbit. alice has spent the entire book looking for him! she has dreaded seeing him. and yet when she does meet him at last, it lasts for a few pages. he is the least memorable character in the book! he is given such a fear inspiring description, he is described as the true terror over and over again, and yet! ugh. so irritating.
if not for the anticlimactic, rushed ending i would have loved this book.
