Please note - I feel the title of this book is a bit misleading. I almost didn’t mark it “to be read” solely because of it. If you think you’re gonna get some kind of bdsm, kinky story, you’re gonna be disappointed. And the MC as some empowered bottom? That isn’t or doesn’t happen either. What you will get instead, is an underdog kind of guy finding his worth with the helpful hand that only love can provide. I know, total schmaltzy sentiment right there, but it is what it is.

Poor Adrian has recently been given some horribly harsh “truths” by an ungrateful boyfriend. They break up and in order to rectify some semblance of pride, he finds himself back at a bar where a gorgeous hot biker had surprisingly hit on him. What ensues is some really nicely done smex as Adrian gets his groove back. Well… as much as an adorkable accountant with lots of self esteem issues can in a few short weeks.

Wyatt has a secretive past and is mostly always on the run. Of course, this prevents him from settling down anywhere for long. However, he can’t resist what Adrian’s offering, and instead of leaving it as a one night stand, Wyatt becomes addicted to the tenderhearted, caring guy who lets his inhibitions go. Mmmm hmmm.

The first half of this book was the evolution of Adrian and Wyatt’s relationship which I enjoyed immensely, and then it changes tone and direction where the romance takes a back seat a bit. It seems Wyatt’s past possibly catches up to him, while at the same time, Adrian finds himself possibly embroiled in illegal actions at his job. A perfect storm commences and things go haywire and life suddenly gets convoluted and scary. I admit I’m still a little vague on the details, but things are magically resolved, and love prevails with a well deserved happy ending.

So... expect wholly likeable characters. Adrian was easily relatable, simply wanting someone to equally care for him back. Wyatt was one confident, sexy beast who was kind and genuine. This was a sweet and smexy contemporary romance with a little cat and mouse suspense, made all the better by the excellent narration by Nick J. Russo. Overall, simply a satisfying read/listen!

Thank you to the author/publisher for the audio in exchange for a honest review

A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words Review An Alisa Review:

Rating: 5 stars out of 5

I really enjoyed this story. Adrian first meets Wyatt when he is in a relationship, but can’t help but think of what Wyatt said to him. After his relationship blows up he decides to take a chance.

Adrian’s life is pretty predicable and when he decides to go out of his comfort zone, he couldn’t have picked a better person than Wyatt. A few “no feelings” hook-ups seem like the perfect answer to getting out of his funk, but he doesn’t expect to get any real feelings or for Wyatt to feel anything for him. His innocence is adorable and you can’t help but love him.

This story is told from both character’s points of view, but mostly Adrian’s. I could feel how destroyed Adrian felt when his relationship fell apart, but how hopeful he is that Wyatt could make things better. He has a lot of self confidence to build up, but Wyatt has no problem being there and telling him how he feels and sees Adrian while Adrian would like nothing more than being Wyatt’s reason for staying.

Cover art by AngstyG is very nice and eye catching.

~ Narration Rating: 5 Stars ~

On the last night of his relationship, Adrian’s car breaks down and he and his whiny boyfriend have to march through a rural area to find a place to call for a tow and a ride ack to civilization. Relief floods Adrian when they discover that the “biker bar” they found is actually a gay bar. It gets even better when a hot and sexy older man openly flirts with Adrian.

A few days later, Adrian has been dumped. He’s been told he’s boring, he’s annoying, and he’s a bad lay. After his boyfriend leaves, Adrian drives back out to the rural bar looking for Wyatt—and maybe some adventure, maybe something else. So, when he does find Wyatt and explains he is no longer attached, Adrian and Wyatt combust. They rush out of the bar and to the nearest hotel where…things don’t go exactly as planned, but the sparks remain. Adrian is almost never a bottom, but with Watt the sex is so intense and so fulfilling, the idea that he’s a bad lay starts to get washed away. What starts out as no-strings-attached fun quickly becomes something both men may have been missing their entire lives. Adrian needs to gain confidence, and Wyatt needs a reason to stay put. Each man rescues the other, and the specifics of who does what in bed is replaced with true love and affection.

Nick Russo once again gives his full talents to this narration. All of the things listeners have come to expect when they see his name on the narration line are on full display here. You will not be disappointed. There’s a mystery involved in both the main and the subplot. Each has its own pace and characters, and Russo makes every bit of the story pop. The complete story gives him so much material to work with that you may want to listen to it several times to fully appreciate the nuances of his talented voice and richness of the characters he renders here.

Buy the book for the story and for the top-level narration. Look for the names of both the author and the narrator on future books for what surely will be a fun ride.

2.5 stars The story was a hodgepodge and all over the place. It could be titled "The Adventures of Boring Accountant Adrian". Poor guy was so insecure and clueless that he was unlikeable. His new boyfriend Wyatt wasn't as fully developed. It felt as though he was just a vehicle for Adrian to rework his self identity.

First off, if you’re looking for a book with a power bottom, you won’t find it here. It’s a pretty misleading title. Other than Wyatt calling Aidan a power bottom when they first met, and being told Aidan was a bit bossy in bed, there wasn’t really anything that actually indicated that Aidan was a power bottom.

I did feel these was really slow to start. I feel like the only purpose Martin served was for them having a reason to walk into that bar, otherwise there wasn’t any reason why Aidan couldn’t have already been broken up and licking his wounds. It did start to get good, but then it didn’t really go from there. There was more going on with Aidan and Barber at work than with Wyatt and Aidan.

And once you get about 2/3 of the any in, when you get gangsters and FBI and paranoia and castles, it just gets ridiculous... and not in a good way.

A book like this should have taken me two days at most to read, but it took me four, and I admit I skimmed a lot of the last few chapters.

I really enjoyed this, which surprised me a bit because that title. Really?

But ignore the title and you'll get a sweet, kind of silly, kind of funny and kind of actiony story about 2 adorable MC's and dual POV!!

I love dual POV!!

I really liked Adrian, I could relate to him a lot at the start but unfortunately his constant questioning of himself started to annoy me near the end. I get that he took a blow at the start (his ex is basically a total douchecanoe) but Wyatt could not have been clearer about how attractive he found him and to be honest I'd get well fed up with having to reassure someone ALL THE TIME especially after fabulous nookie. But Wyatt is pretty damn awesome so he doesn't seem to mind much.

I liked the little mystery and action element that was thrown in here as well. Just made it a bit more fun for me and even though it was utterly ridiculous it kept me totally entertained. I would've liked a bit more closure on some things but overall it was good.

For me this was just perfect escapism, which I need right now, fun and well written with a few steamy moments and a bit of action. What more can you ask for?

BR with Marte and Susan!!

Thanks ladies. Much fun was had and I learned that pancakes for breakfast is not a 'thing' everywhere. Learning all the time! :D

Decent read. Characters were likable and the romance was nice...though I'm not sure I buy into it fully. I found the whole mafia plot a bit ridiculous, but at least it was ridiculous in a fun way. I would've liked more resolution from Wyatt's family's past.
