I liked this one, but there was a lot going on in 1.5 days! Fen is very clever and way better at observing and solving mysteries than me. Lots of characters to keep up with. Overall, it was good.

Liked it but only just. Older book originally published in 1946 definitely a lot of things that would not go over well today. Also British and things that didn’t resonate with me. I still don’t understand a reference to a “daily slut who came to cook his meals and make a pretence of cleaning”. Has the meaning of slut changed? Or was it different in England?

Such a charming and engaging example of golden age mystery, with so many funny moments and buckets of delightful dialogue. Gervase Fen is so much fun as a detective, I’d read about him solving the mystery of which hat to wear.

An amusing detective story that made me smile and laugh several times. Will try to find more Fen mysteries. That I happened to be in Oxford when I read it made it all the more fun for me.
