i loveeed this. so different than her other books which can feel a little repetitive. seemed so out of place but i bought it. it was so disgusting and uncomfortable to read and none of the characters were redeemable let alone coherent. it didn’t make a lot of sense but it was fun and dark and gross to read. i think i loved it so much because it was so different than what we usually get from her.

Fun fact - I will read any book with cannibalism in it. A lot of cannibal stories will go really gory and miss a lot of interesting nuances, but this one really worked through what a starvation situation would *feel* like. It was gross without going over the top.

I had trouble connecting with the character because they were all terrible people but you can say that about all of Ottessa Moshfegh's books. The story took some really interesting turns so it kept me going all the way through!
