This was cute and funny and sweet and perfectly captures how awkward sex can be, but I still feel like MacKenzi Lee hates her own MC—poor, lovely Monty—and Percy is way too fucking sanctimonious for him. You can do better, Monty!

(I wish my life could be narrated by Christian Coulson).

I'm usually not a big fan of novellas but I am definitely a huge admirer of Monty and I was so excited for this to be published! I waited over a week for the audiobook to be available on Storytel because Christian Coulson is life, his Monty is life and if you've never listened to the Gentlemen's books on audio you should definitely give them a try because they. are. the bomb.

This book has everything I was expecting from a novella, it was nice, sweet and fun and gave us a bit more time with Monty and Percy. Before listening to it, I was actually fearing that the author had actually wrote a sex scene between them and turned the whole thing into bad fanfiction, but she did not and I'm so sorry for having thought otherwise. What she did was give us an insight into every person's fears and insecurities while dealing with first love and first times.
What I loved the most was the ending, and the conversation between Monty and Scipio. I am so happy that Monty could finally drop this weight that has been on his shoulders forever and be himself without having to fear someone else's (his father's in particular) reaction to his sexuality. He deserves to be loved and accepted for who he is, and I'm so glad he found a father figure in Scipio.

A cute quick read following A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue when I wasn’t ready for Monty and Percy’s story to end. I was glad to have a little more of their story together, and the premise of the book made me think there might be a little more spice than there was. I don’t regret reading it, but the mental turmoil over their first time honestly felt less like two actual men in love, and more like two men as imagined by a woman. Overall, it made the story a bit unbelievable and as if these weren’t quite the same characters we met in A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue.

I am so disappointed! The story revolves about talking about a plot that never happens. It's like advertising a book about an adventure, and then spend the whole book talking about it and freaking out about it, but never going on it like it was promised.
This was honestly a waste of my time, and if i knew i would be this let down, i wouldn't even have read the first one

alright.

i know what you're thinking.

i know what i'm thinking.

i loved gentleman's guide. i love monty and percy. i love their relationship. i love their story.

so why did i not love this with every fiber of my being?

i think this was just a way for mackenzi to a) prolong their story by a whole 100 pages, and b) to sell more books.

i suppose half of me is completely fine with the fact that nothing really happened here. i could read monty's perspective and be content, always. i am also ok with the fact that nothing happened for the sake that monty and percy weren't ready for anything to happen when it came down to it, and that's totally okay!

except - that's. really all there is. just their cute banter, felicity's soft mom-judging, cameos by characters we love, and monty and percy's love being semi-wholesome. that's it.

if you're into that, then this is for you. if you're expecting this to be a necessity to the plot of the montague siblings series, then i'm sorry to disappoint you :')
