This book is not for me. Written by a man who does not seem to like his children at all. I was made speechless by a lot of the content. I love my baby more than life itself. I love him so much that sometimes it’s hard to breathe when I look at him. I can’t imagine writing or even thinking a lot of what is said in this book. Like I said, it’s clearly not written for me: a mother whose baby is her whole world. Also, why is only one author listed when some poems are written by his wife? The fact that the first acknowledgments were dedicated to the people who hated his last book… dude, take the hint. Also! I wouldn’t consider a single inch of this book poetry. Full sentences chopped into multiple lines is not poetry. There’s no art to this or effort. At all!

I laughed so hard at these poems. Some of them are better than others. My personal favorites "Quiet Time" (be quiet or we put you in a tree), "I am going to count to three" (What does one do after three? Go to four?) "The Talk" (Maybe just talk to Glen) and "Weekend breakfast with the family" (mommy has a squishy butt). I still have a smile on my face just thinking about them.

Truth really can be hilarious. And kids are hard work. Good fun.

I liked this a little better than the first Love Poems book, maybe because I'm a little saltier about parenting than marriage, but these books also have an edge of what rubs me the wrong way in Tom Perrotta novels. I'm just not quite cynical enough to fully appreciate these I think.

Witty, refreshing, and relatable! Such a great collection for both new and seasoned parents.
