Ruby is a licensed therapist, so she understands and rationalizes that while she has killed three people, she is not a sociopath. She is a kind and loving and empathetic human being. Perhaps because she is such a kind and caring person, she has convinced herself that she has done nothing wrong because the three people she killed were truly vile and evil. But she is now suspected of killing her husband – a person she loved and who was a kind and caring person. I loved every minute of this cleverly written book. The story is told from Ruby’s point of view and the author does an incredible job making her a really likeable character despite the fact she freely admits (to herself) that she is a murderer.

A fast-paced story told by alternating between the main character, Ruby's memories of her past and present. Told in Ruby's quirky, twisted POV. The chapters are short, and the story is entertaining. You can't help but like the lady killer. This is the debut novel, and I can't wait to read more of their future novels.

Poorly written and the entire story was flat.  I had a better time reading the back of a box of cereal

"Blood Sugar" introduces Ruby, a therapist accused of murder, who reflects on her past actions and fights to prove her innocence. But let’s be clear, Ruby is a murderer, and she doesn't shy away from it. As I dove into Ruby's world, I was struck by her bold delivery and the book's daring approach to morality. Ruby's character is complex and intriguing, blurring the lines between guilt and empathy. While the protagonist's actions may challenge moral boundaries, the narrative engages with themes of justice and consequence. The book offers a curious plot and a protagonist worth talking about. Rothchild creates an addicting blend of suspense and introspection that engages from beginning to end.

While I enjoyed "Blood Sugar," I couldn't ignore the absence of racial identity in the protagonist and the audacity portrayed by her actions. The character's intelligence and calculating nature didn't make her someone I could root for, despite her personal relationships. The book's realism in portraying a killer with no guilt was both engaging and unsettling. Each death raised moral questions, leaving readers to ponder justice and truth. Personally, I felt some killings were unnecessary, and the character's losses felt like karmic consequences urging her to change. Despite these complexities, the questionable main character didn't hinder my overall enjoyment of the story.
