Brubaker continues to knock these books out of the park. RECKLESS might be my favorite work by him yet!

A masterclass in fourth wall breaks. Normally addressing the reader as "you" is a cardinal sin in my opinion, but this series somehow continues to get away with it.

I think this may have been my favorite of the Reckless series so far. It touched more on the story of Anna, which I had been hoping to see. I think this book created more of an emotinal  investment in both of the characters for me, so I'm looking forward to seeing where the next books go.

I admit to not being familiar with the pulpy action novel series the Reckless books are referencing but it seems beside the point when they're this excellent without that context.

3 books in, these have been about the evils of gentrification, COINTELPRO & the exploitation that is Hollywood of any era.

I'm a sucker for few things like an LA detective story - nothing better than the good old juxtaposition of sunny southern California with the foundational rot of the place. Chinatown? Chandler? Roger Rabbit? You can comfortably put this series up there next to them.

After devouring and loving the second book, I couldn't wait to read the third and while it's not nearly as good as the first two (the villain has to explain his Master Plan before an improbable, cringy finish), it's still an exciting tale about LA corruption and urban decay featuring...what else...freeway developments. This is such a great series that I've already come to love and I'm probably going to finish it in the next couple of weeks and await future ones with bated breath.

Fleshes out the world of Ethan Reckless, tells a great story, and hints at more to come. Damn I love this series.
