What happens with the person you love most in the world suddenly dies?
“After Annie” is a heartbreaking book about the grief of three different people—a daughter, a husband and a beat friend—after the person they love most suddenly passes away. Ali is 13 and feels like she needs to step into her mother’s shoes taking care of her younger brothers. Bill is overwhelmed by his grief as he realizes he just lost his soul mate. AnnMarie doesn’t know how to go on when the one person who was always by her side is no longer there. Through the year after Annie’s loss, we see how Annie impacted each person’s life as they learn to live without her.
This book beautifully captures the raw emotions one feels when facing the loss of someone they love. It’s a difficult book to read if you’ve lost someone you loved…I had to put this book down a few times because I was just too emotional. It’s also a book that handles this subject with such compassion and care, handling each character with grace, that I think in many ways it also can bring comfort. The glimpses of Annie’s life through the ones she loves is woven into their stories so seamlessly, it’s hard to remember she’s not alive and by them through it all. While it’s not an easy read, it’s a well-written book that will stay with its readers long after they put it down.
**Thank you so much to NetGalley, Random House Publishing and Anna Quindlen for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I appreciate the opportunity!**

Beautiful writing. Sweet story. Tears all the way through, but, strangely, hopeful. Great way to see how a life so shapes those around him/her and leaves such a hole when one is gone.
