This is the true story of US Poet Laureate WS Merwin and the Merwin Conservancy in Hawaii. After growing up in the city, Merwin was always searching for a place of silence to write his poems. When he discovered some land in Hawaii damaged by harmful agricultural practices, Merwin buys it. Everyone tells him the land will never grow anything again, but everyday, Merwin and his wife plant one native palm tree on their land and soon, they start to grow into the beautiful palm forest it is today. This book is about poems, environmentalism, and the value of letting a place (and yourself) just grow. A wonderful book for young poets, environmentalists, and anyone looking for one small way to make a difference.
