After taking a break from the Stage School series (which was both unplanned and unwilling, but also, in retrospect, rather refreshing), I plunged right back into the world of the Swan Academy, and it felt like coming back home after a long time away. Olivia is just as compelling a protagonist as ever, Eel is back in her usual role as both a comedic relief character and a crucial agent within the plot, and the whole cast of characters feels like old friends I'm seeing again after a long time. But Cosi is definitely my favourite out of the new additions in this book. Her character development practically turns her initial characterisation on its head, and I'm all in for it. There were also a number of character pairs who, as strange as it might seem at first, turn out to be more alike than they come across as at first glance. Nothing less than 5/5* for this brilliant little book.

Book three of the Stage School series sees more of the same, but it is an engaging series and the plots whilst a little bit of cliche and old hat have got something which does draw you to them, and the characters are interesting.
