I mean...aquaman’s “real” world is already pretty ornate, fantastic and hard to follow. So yeah, why not put him on an island and MAKE UP a whole bunch of ocean gods that appear whenever aqua man REALLY wants them to? And fight for colossal word shaking stakes that really mean...nothing.
Feels like an author Trying Really Hard.
It was very hard to follow what was even going on. Other than an evil ocean and salt goddess wanted to take over everything.

This was interesting but I'm not sure in a good way. It was kind of boring to be honest. This guy with amnesia washes up on the shore wearing Aquaman colors, an aqua belt, can talk to sea animals AND breathe underwater and yet they can't figure out his identity??? Come on now. Overall, this was just boring. There are better Aquaman stories - go read those.

I really liked this story, I picked up this on a BOGO sale along with another graphic novel, and I am satisfied with this choice. I haven't read anything from this version of Aquaman, but assuming you're familiar with the character's story, this is a story you can jump right in.
The layer of not knowing/discovering yourself was well spread throughout the characters. Definitely recommend this for any fan of hero/self discovery/gods readers.

Aquaman Unspoken Water by Kelly Sue DeConnick is an interesting series of comics. It follows Aquaman(who I have never been too interested in) after losing all his memory. This is quite a cliche plot point and has been done many times before. The book introduces a lot of characters based off of many different mythologies, which is a fantastic idea, but DeConnick did not detail the characters enough. Detail in general was missing quite a lot during this book, and the plot felt rushed at times, with the final climax not really creating the effect it probably should have. The writing is mixed, some of the dialogue was very well written, but DeConnick’s writing style felt like it did not really suit aquaman and the plot. The art in this book was spectacular in parts, however some of the big actions scenes were illustrated a little clunkily. Overall, an interesting read but certainly not a must-read, however perhaps the comic was just not really to my taste, and someone else could enjoy it a lot more than I did.

I really liked the art in this. The story was interesting as well, enough to want to read the next volume.

I feel bad giving this the same star rating as the other perfectly blah comic I just finished, but DeConnick isn't really shining here. There are too many characters who don't get flushed out enough and not enough worldbuilding to really carry out Curry's amnesia profile. And then a big monster fight. It's fun and pretty but not much more than that.

I liked how DeConnick dove into some more mythology, as well as explored Arthur's amnesia, but the pacing, character development, and exploration of the mythology and amnesia could have been better done. (e-galley from NetGalley)

I don't know a lot about Aquaman generally but that worked out fine because in this book neither does Aquaman (rimshot). I enjoyed this! Kelly Sue is great, I'll read whatever random character she writes about!

Out of all the DC characters, Aquaman is the one I know the least about. In fact, I know nothing about Aquaman. That said, I surprisingly enjoyed this! Surprising because I didn't think I would be able to follow the story since I knew nothing going in. But, I enjoyed the mythology and fantasy aspects of the story. Excited to see how the story evolves.
