Not sure what it is, but I keep managing to start a series not on book 1. However you have to love a book that involves shape shifters, wolves, and government conspiracies. Daria is a wildlife biologist who keeps an eye on the wild wolves. Daria has some psychic abilities which come in handy when she stumbles onto a crime scene and ends up being pushed off a ledge. Daria knows she is badly hurt so she reaches out to Ryon, someone she has never met, to come rescue her.

Ryon answers Daria's call and rounds up some of his wolf shifter pals to look for her. When they discover Daria, after discovering the crime scene, the only way to save her is for Ryon to change her. Daria is his mate and changing her is the only way to save both of them.

However how will she react once she is better? Will she be able to forgive Ryon? Can he forgive himself for changing her?

Hunter’s Heart is the fourth installment of J.D. Tyler’s Alpha Pack Novels, and she doesn’t disappoint as she tells the story of Ryon Hunter. Ryon’s gift is the ability to see dead people, although their constant need for assistance in ways he can’t understand often seems more like a curse. When he hears the voice of Daria Bradford, a wildlife biologist studying wolves in the Shoshone National Park, he almost ignores it until he realizes she is very much alive and in need of his help after being attacked by a rogue white wolf. Further complicating the situation is the fact that Daria is his fated mate, and his extreme measures of saving her life may actually push her away from him for good.

I liked Daria, she was a no nonsense, intelligent, independent woman who made her own way in a tough and often lonely field. Her logical but caring nature made her a match to Ryon, and she really tried to make the best out of a bad situation. Ryon is a courageous and honorable person, whose loyalty extends to Daria without question after he helps her during her initial rescue. The search of the white wolf, which leads Ryon and Daria deep into danger as they try to solve the mystery of her attack, only enhances the action packed plot. In true J. D. Tyler fashion there is suspense, mystery, and romance as well as a surprising twist at the end that leaves you wishing for the next novel.

Didn't connect as much as I did with the other novels in the series. At times it seemed like the sexual tension/fulfillment was a filler for a lack of plot in places. Not sure I'm going to continue with this series. Love the narration, though.
