The Best Of: The Avant-Guards #7

1. The fact that Charlie has not really unpacked her room but has one crooked poster on her wall for Y Tu Mama Tambien, which was Oscar winning director Alfonso Cuarón's first film. I love Charlie's priorities.

2. Charlie's entire conversation with her genius, graduated-early little sister. They feel like real siblings who tease but love, and I'm curious to see if this is developed further. Will Allie come to the same college as her big sis?

3. Nicole's open, honest acceptance of Charlie and Liv's relationship and the shock of her teammates that Nicole actually expressed her emotions.

4. Charlie finally finding support and acceptance in a team setting. "It's so weird to feel so... supported? I feel like they all have my back, and I have theirs. I guess this is why they're always encouraging girls to play team sports. This is what I was always missing."

5. Charlie coming up with the first annual Olivia Film Festival that is comprised of sports movies with female leads to cheer Olivia up. This is so thoughtful and clearly shows Charlie knows what iv needs.

6. All of the movie picks: Tiffany's pick of A League of One's Own, Nicole's pick of Bend It Like Beckham, Ashley's pick of Whip It, Jay's pick of a documentary about Glow, and Charlie's pick of Bring It On. All of these picks say so much about these characters, and also I love many of these films. I'm particularly glad Whip It is getting its due. I LOVE that film.

7. Charlie knows what Liv's favorite snack is! Liv has a thing for Ellen Page!

8. Charlie opening up and just giving a really beautiful speech thanking Liv for all her work on the team and getting her to be on the team because Charlie had been burned by teams before but this has been so good for her. I love Charlie so much.

9. The group hug Charlie receives after said speech. She looks so comfortable, but it also is so lovely.

10. Ending with a team-huddle and chant. That's always the best!

The Avant Guards vol. 1-8
(I've decided to do a series review but this includes no spoilers for any of the volumes)

+This was an extremely quick read set in college following a basketball team
+The characters are diverse and very, very easy to like. We have some strong personalities and they are very wonderful
+It is a supportive friendship group !!
+ The art is really colourful and cool

★★★
This was a super easy read with some great characters. There wasn't really anything wrong with it but it wasn't too memorable so I'm rating it 3 stars. I don't think I was too invested in the plot and because it was so short we didn't get to go too deep into anything. But still a solid read that I think most would have a decent time with.
