I really liked the setting and the characters, especially Philip and Chika. I also liked Philip’s family and how they added to the story. Unfortunately, the mystery itself was slow, convoluted, and had people acting out of character if the plot required. The ending was unsatisfying because it ignored the many systemic issues that the book had revealed in favor of a single villain.
