Some authors just need to be heard. Scott Sigler is one of those authors. He reads his books with such enthusiasm, it can't help but be entertaining. This book was one long chase filled adventure romp. I listened to it while traveling and it was perfect because I could pause and stop it as needed and not feel like I had to rewind (yes I said rewind, and yes I know it dates me!) I really can't tell you why but I just really enjoy Mr. Sigler's writing style and his stories. This is the third book I have "read" of his and I just love him more and more!

Finally, finally got to read this adventure, and it did not disappoint! I can honestly say that this book *almost* made me afraid of creatures I'd never be afraid of. But that's Scott Sigler for you: A master horror author who mixes science with gory terror and adds a heaping of disturbing monsters. I've been a fan of Sigler's for a long time and I can honestly say this is one of my favourites that he's ever written. It's AWESOME. The build up is a little slow in the beginning as the author introduces the characters and the science (soooo much science, but I understood it when it was explained), but soon enough, the story takes a turn for the dangerous and intense and horrific as the scientists get a little too ambitious and their creation spirals out of control. The tension and action scenes kept my eyes rooted to the pages. I was constantly biting my nails and hoping that my favourite characters would make it out, and my least favourite characters would meet their deserved ends. I absolutely loved Colding, Sara (talk about a kick-butt lady!), Clayton, and Gunther, and their enemies were even nastier than I could imagine. This has all the makings of a huge Hollywood blockbuster, though it would warrant an R-rating due to the excessive gore. Seriously, some of the description used for certain scenes made me cringe. Honestly, the one thing that surprised me the most in this book was the romance. I wasn't expecting it when I usually do for other books, but I have to say I enjoyed it and felt it was a nice addition. For real, I could rave about this awesome novel all day and all night, but you'd be better served if you simply went out and picked up a copy for yourself. It's totally worth the read, and you'll never look at cows the same way again!

A classic tale of humanity messing with nature's building blocks and biting more than jt can chew. This book takes too long to get to the climax to the point that I felt like it was actually about something else entirely.
After reading a number of Siglers books I've come to find a few faults. Firstly, the lack of female characters. This is the first time one has had a a few in major roles and I found them to be lacking. One is pretty one dimensional, swooning over the hero and being objectified by the villians, she doesn't feel truly fleshed out. The other feels like more like a prop that serves to push the story forward and add horror elements with their hallucinations and poor mental health.
In conclusion, this book reads like a trashy aeroplane novel but way too long for the pay off. Too many named characters that are unnecessary. Jurassic Park did it better. I prefer his sci-fi sport stuff to this.

This novel was very interesting but it was a slow burner, the action didn't really get going until the second half of the book. The second half was, as with all Sigler novels, amazing and intense with lots of detailed and horrific action scenes and scary situations. Definitely worth a read.

Brilliant book. I found myself getting really attached to and involved with the characters, gunning for some to die and others to survive. As with many Sigler books, you never quite know if your favourite will make it and I went on a real rollercoaster of emotion reading this.
