This book is actually quite approachable, given the gravity of the topic. It does a good job getting to the details of persistent failure to pursue feasible means of peace in this conflict, and does so in a way that equally spreads the blame on all “would be progressives” just as much as the right-wing conservative efforts to quash Palestinian resistance going back to 1948 Nakba and beyond. You can’t blame it on Trump, and you can’t blame it all on any single party. Palestinian autonomy has been under attack and disregarded for over 100 years by this point, and I truly believe everyone should read books like this to start educating on where we have all collectively, and consistently dropped the ball on holding world political leaders accountable to humanitarian law and incontrovertible right to human dignity and self-determination for all. There is no humanitarian solution that does not reprimand Israel for discrimination and colonial genocide. There is no solution that doesn’t hold Hamas accountable for its part in civilian casualties on their part. There is no solution the does not hold the US government to account for funding consistent means of undermining Palestinian democracy, and evidence based collusion to overthrow a political rival they found inconvenient, against the wishes of all parties. The US is just as guilty, and the now nearly 8month genocidal occupation by Israel is inexcusable given the situation has been perpetuated by years of blatant hostility and degradation of the right to live for Palestinians.
