After inhaling Reid’s debut in basically one sitting, I was expecting great things from second novel. The premise was intriguing so naturally as soon as I got my hands on it I dove right in.

Unfortunately, this just wasn’t for me. The plot was slow to get going, there was a large cast of characters, who didn’t feel unique enough, so I struggled to keep track of who was who. The blurb only mentions Agatha and Millie, but Kennedy’s storyline was way more interesting. I could have done without the meandering of the other plot points and just read about Kennedy quite happily!

Is this book an interesting look at how money impacts relationships? Sure. Is it a compelling story? Sort of. I want to love it, but sometimes it’s not meant to be. It very much felt like watching a car crash in slow motion. I knew it was all going to go to 💩 but just not when and I was expecting it sooner.

Once I was reading it was easy to get through large chunks at a time, but I just didn’t feel the pull to want to pick it up in the first place.

I was also really disappointed with the ending. I was expecting one character in particular to get her comeuppance… but nope she got everything she wanted despite being a generally awful person. I’m not sure that’s something we should be encouraging as a takeaway from any book really.

If you like character driven books, with minimal plot I can imagine you’ll love this but sadly not for me.

Liked the characters, I was impressed how within a few pages, I knew exactly who each person was. The dialogue dragged a little for me, but glad I read this
