The stories were hit and miss...only teo stories were real mises in my eyes so overall, a good collection of short stories to read.
This review is only for "Red Dress, With Pearls" by Patricia Briggs. I really enjoyed reading from Warren's point-of-view! His relationship with Kyle is something I've always wished was mentioned more in the Mercy Thompson series. The story was very good, with a twist at the end, but it seemed a little too abrupt for me. I'm sure it wouldn't have been as surprising if that was not the case, but I still would've not felt like I had skipped a page in there somewhere. :) Eagerly awaiting more...
This was a pretty solid collection. A couple of these stories were more 'urban fantasy adjacent' and probably belonged to a different anthology, but over all this was an enjoyable read.
dark
mysterious
tense
medium-paced
There's a definite Noir feel to this collection, with a supernatural twist. I love it.
Not the best anthology although I really enjoyed the Laurie King and Simon Green contributions.
I bought this collection of urban fantasy short stories specifically to get my hands on the new novella by Diana Gabaldon, "Lord John and the Plague of Zombies". For anyone devoted to the works of Diana Gabaldon, this is yet another fun addition to the Lord John series -- not exactly essential, but another chance to see Lord John apply his upper-crust British military efficiency to the solving of a seemingly supernatural mystery. Gabaldon knows how to please her fans. LJ&tPoZ includes just enough of all the elements that make her readers salivate, including a reference to our favorite red-headed Scot, Lord John's attraction to every well-formed male in his vicinity, and this time around, a cameo appearance of an important (though, at least for me, much despised) character from the Outlander series.
I'm sure the rest of the stories in this collection are quite good as well, and I'll get around to them eventually. For readers like me, the Lord John piece is reason enough to pick this one up.

So, full disclosure, I got this one for the Patricia Briggs story. And I pretty much only read the Patricia Briggs story. I did make an attempt at reading the Charlaine Harris story since I have been sorta following the Sookie books, but I didn't really find it that interesting. Now the Patricia Briggs short story was much more exciting, considering I LOVE WARREN AND KYLE. It was a very cute story, and I was even surprised by the ending. I wish it could have been longer, considering I didn't get as much Warren-Kyle love as I would have enjoyed, or even just more story. Of course, it is a short story so I guess I can't expect too much.
I guess the basic summary (and remember, this is only for two of the stories) is a solid three and a half stars.

4 stars Death by Dahlia I don't remember any of these vampires from Sookie, so it might be another series or not. Dahlia is at the ascension of a new vampire Sherriff in Dahlia's nest. A donor is murdered and Dahlia is one of the vampires selected to find the murderer.
4 stars In Red, With Pearls/Briggs A zombie is sent to kill Kyle and Warren investigates. I liked how everything ties together.

I picked this up to read the great Diana Gabaldon story, "Lord John and the Plague of Zombies" and I was happy to see a story by Laurie R. King, too.
