A quick and pleasant read. While it lampshades some of the tropes it falls into, maybe because of this it didn’t quite hit me in the feels the way I would have imagined it should.

I really liked the ending of this book. Actually, I didn’t want it to end and so I read the acknowledgments. It was a nice touch that Janine was a real editor, iykyk. Anyway, the writing was stellar as always, I’d accept Gabrielle’s hand in marriage if she offered. I liked the epigraphs at the beginning of each chapter and finding out what their purpose was in the end was heartwarming and heart shattering all at the same time. The twists and plot in this book were incredible. It was definitely a softer read compared to Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, which I’ve also read. All in all a great read.

A really beautiful and emotional story. Fast paced, easy read, thoughtful, reflective, lots of quotes to hold on to, and full of heart. I enjoyed this one thoroughly even though it was more emotional than I was expecting- not as funny/optimistic as the blurbs on the book make it seem. I think fans of The Reading List or No Two Persons would enjoy this one.

Zevins again writes a book where the characters seem unbelievably real. There’s not much to say about the plot of this story without giving away spoilers but will say this; this is a story about family and love and how those things can develop and change as we grow older. (It is also about books)

Zevins does an incredible job showing the lives of not only the main character but the “side” characters. How even though they are not the focus of this story it doesn’t diminish the fact that they live lives just as full as anyone else. Zevins shows how the life and death a single person can completely change a person world, while acknowledging that life moves on.

Just like Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow,  this book feels like a biography of people who never existed but I so wish they had.

This was a recommendation from a friend and I wasn't sure what to expect. The only thing I knew about it was that it was written by the same author as Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow which I loved.

The structure of the novel, which includes brief notes about various short stories ahead of each chapter was enjoyable and I really liked getting to know the characters. Not only was it fun to see all of the different short stories, but because the titular character is a bookseller, it is truly a love story about books and reading and the impact of literature (in all forms and genres) on people and relationships.

The portrayals of grief resonated in the varied way it was expressed by characters. Gave me House By The Cerulean Sea vibes, but heavier.
