My second King book and certainly not my last. The writing was satisfying and it had the tension and emotion I enjoy from him.

I found the setting, pacing, and length to suit the story perfectly. It felt lonely, discomforting, and altogether an anxious account of events.

The characters were light on detail and not much development seemed to happen with them. I don’t know if that was deliberate, but it left me wanting for more to love/hate in them.

The plot itself was okay, a good and miserable tale. Like the characters, it felt hasty - almost as if the story itself was a passing daydream that never really fleshes out.

I enjoyed the way the story is written:
a confession written by a clearly broken man. Although, I found it hard to believe someone would continuously write a confession such as this, let alone with some sections forming simple exposition.

Overall, a good book, just not one I found difficult to put down.

This book made me scared of rats for a good few weeks. It really is a Stephen king book. It’s got a really good premise, but it also scares you a bit about how men can control women.

1922 is about Wilf, a farmer with 80 acres of land, and the consequences of the murder he committed in 1922 to gain 100 acres of his wife's land that were left to her by her father.
Stephen King has always been a hit-or-miss author for me so I am always hesitant to pick up anything of his, but I try to do so with an open mind every time because I WANT to like his books so bad, but I tend to be disappointed. Prior to this novella, I have read 4 pieces of King's work and only thoroughly enjoyed 2 of them; Carrie and It. The other two I read were Pet Semetary and The Mist both of which hold a special, disdainful place in my heart. I found them both incredibly boring and I find a lot of King's writing to just drone on and on, often repeating itself. Obviously, IT had this issue, but I was able to enjoy it never the less. And Carrie of course suffers from the all too well-known women-written-by-men syndrome, but again I found it enjoyable.
Out of the few stories I have read from him, I think that 1922 was probably by far the most enjoyable. I found Wilf to be a fascinating narrator and I love the frame that King gives to the story; It is told by Wilf as a confession for his crimes as he waits for his long overdue punishment. For me, as a reader, you can really see that Wilf is a man who knows his end is approaching and is fully aware of how his actions have led not only to this moment but to every horrifying thing that has happened to him since 1922.
Also a side note: there are a lot of rats in this. Rtas freak me out when it comes to how willing they are to just eat people if given the chance, but King makes them even more haunting by placing these bloodthirsty rats in the most unexpected portions of the novella.
