CAWPILE of ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Read this book as part of The Losers Club Readathon for the buddy read
prompt.
Overall l enjoyed this read. Just ending by the way. I'm new to this kind of genre.
It does have some gruesome scenes and imagery. So would definitely consider checking trigger warnings before reading.
This is my first Stephen King’s short story and will continue to explore more of his works!

⚠️ TW: murder, animal abuse, mental illness, suicide ⚠️ This may be an unpopular opinion review so buckle up.. This novella follows Wilfred James a farmer from Nebraska who lives with his wife, Arlette, and son, Henry. However this isn't a happy story. Arlette isn't happy in Nebraska and wants to sell up and move to open a dress shop but Wilfred isn't happy with this and decides the only way to settle this is by murdering his wife with the help of his son. And despite Wilfred thinking that will solve all of his problems he is sorely mistaken and things can only get worse. Unfortunately this one didn't hit the mark for me. I really didn't like any of the characters however I did somewhat feel sorry for Henry. So to break down the characters.. Wilfred was a 'stuck in his ways', misogynistic, horrible man who decided to destroy his family to get his own way. Arlette wasn't much better and had a grossly vulgar personality and clearly only cared for herself and money. And finally, Henry was so easily lead even though I did really feel sorry for him. The only reason I gave this two stars is because it was a quick read and I can see why others would like it and I did enjoy the unreliable narration that allowed you to draw your own conclusions and opinions about the family but other than that it just wasn't for me.
