4.5 Starrs.

There was so much I loved about this book. Alyzon's magic/disorder/strange ability was so unique. I really loved how it was described and differed from person to person. It was interesting how it affected her perceptions of people in her life and her relationships with them.

A good time aside from the rather abrupt ending, which left a few unanswered questions. This honestly felt like the beginning of a series. So I was sad to realize there are no sequels. I was left wanting more from it.

This book was not what I thought it would be. I was expecting a YA story of teenagers dealing with powers and the usual emotions and perils of becoming a young adult, but it was so much more. It tackled some heavy themes and really made me reflect on why people do bad things. Are they inherently evil? How do people become bad? So many philosophical questions went through my mind reading this and every time I put the book down, it would stay with me.
I think this is one book that will be in my thoughts for a while. I highly recommend this book, as I think it can challenge your thinking. It's dark but it's also full of hope as well.

Summary
When Alyzon, the ordinary member of an extraordinary family, develops enhanced senses, she becomes aware of an evil virus that preys on people's spirits, and realizes that the sickness and its proponents are aware of her and are a menace to her family.

This book was thought-provoking and very deep. I made me look at things differently and change my perspective of people: There aren't evil people just evil sins.

A truly captivating and compelling novel that when finished, will give readers an extreme satisfaction.

To be honest, Alyzon Whitestarr was really slow in plot. It took a long time for things to pick up and for the actual plot to happen. However, the way Isobelle wrote this novel made it okay - there wasn't any need to hurry through and instead, you felt this desire to slowly devour this book in all its goodness.

To me, it seemed as if there were two plots - the first where Alyzon first gains her extrasensory perception and learning how to control it and the second where a dark evil is made known that will allow Alyzon to use her extrasensitive senses to overcome it. The actual plot is obviously the second but the writing style made the first small plot seem more compelling. I honestly would have been okay just reading about Alyzon's senses and learning the good or bad essences of the people she encounters.

Alyzon herself was an amazing character. Her courage to protect her family, her naivete, her sensible character all build up this unique personality. Her quirky family is a huge plus as well as her friends.

Overall, Alyzon Whitestarr is a deeply compulsory novel that will entice readers throughout. I highly recommend this novel to everyone who wants to read an extremely satisfying read.
