I enjoyed this and there were two instances of my jaw dropping in horror/surprise

Once again, I read things backwards! I read book 2 before book 1. Bah! Thankfully, it doesn’t really matter. They don’t connect in that way.
Anywho! Talk about a scary evolutionary possibility!?! A giant mosquito… no.. no thank you. The book itself didn’t scare me, but the idea of it definitely did! It was a great listen; these kind of stories are my favorite as an audio book.
If you like horror books, or weird and eerie stories, then I highly suggest anything by Jeremy Bates. He has a great way of turning places, legends and theories into creepy cool stories!
Narration was great! He does well with all the voices and keeps me engaged the whole time.

quick read; the beginning surprised me in a good way w/how the story started off & I was excited but then it kind of became just like any other creature feature; had a lot of potential but felt disorganized, rushed, & too far fetched; the ending also fell flat &
was too abrupt

Very quick read! The first part of the book hooked me right in but as it continued on it seemed a little too far fetched as well as things were left unsaid. Felt like there was information given but nothing came of it and I prefer a book to be all wrapped up and by the end I was left with more questions than answers.

I DNFed this at page 60, then skipped ahead to find that nothing really happens until page 100. The dialogue between the characters was awkward and unnatural, the kids are obnoxious, and there are so many unnecessary details about background things that don't seem to matter. I didn't like the writing style and I can't see myself ever wanting to finish this.

I really enjoyed the first 4/5ths of this. The characters were good fun and I enjoyed their interactions.

However, once Ellie is kidnapped things quickly fell apart. Rex is killed off with little fanfare - I’m assuming this was for shock value, but it just fell flat. Tabitha then attempts suicide despite not knowing the fate of her daughter in a move that felt very out of character.

The Mosquito Man (Men) was a crap villain. The brief explanation at the end could have been fleshed out throughout, but I think the larger issue was that there wasn’t much of a ‘legend’ to begin with. Other than a brief (but excellent) chapter on sightings in the small town, the reveal that a human-sized mosquito was committing the murders felt silly. Maybe I should have taken the title of the book more literally.

Still, I very much liked the punchy writing style and am looking forward to reading more from the author.
