this was a throughly engrossing read. with a background based on real occurrences, but overall fictional, the author tells a heart tending tale of love and loss. i enjoy how skillfully she gave us multiple pov that all felt distinct and equally important to creating the larger narrative. even though it was a difficult read at times due to the subject matter, the handling of it was exceptional and nothing felt gratuitous or like it was trying for shocking.

 A great masterpiece. The book started off pretty slow and I dragged through it until about halfway. By the end, however, I was on the edge of my seat.

This book has so many complex layers from character relationships, relationship developments, character/scene building, and how these characters navigate life in the south in 1930s America.

Mixed POV books are either a hit or miss for me. For this book and story, I think the different POVs added so much depth and emotion to each character as scenes built and really had my heart clenching at the end.

I really enjoyed this book and I got farther into it and it really made me think and feel for a lot of these characters. Great writing, great descriptions, and even better character building

I usually am not a fan of sad books or historical fiction but I couldn’t put this one down. Almost DNF’ed due to content warnings but glad I stuck it out.
