Very different from her sports series, but still a good read. It kept me on my toes the entire time.

Anna and Dante were once in love, until the night that changed both their lives forever. During a brutal attack on Anna, Dante and his three foster brothers accidentally kill her assailant. They decide to cover up the crime and go their separate ways, Dante leaving town for good. Twelve years later, he comes back to celebrate the wedding anniversary of his foster parents. But on the eve of his return, another brutal murder takes place, drawing them all back to that night twelve years go. Now a detective, Anna is called in to investigate the murders that implicate Dante and his brothers. And while Anna's attraction to Dante has only grown, she doesn't know if she can trust him or if he is the one she's trying to catch.

The Heart of a Killer is a romantic suspense novel by popular romance writer Jaci Burton. This was one of the first Jaci Burton books I ever read. While not my favorite of her books, it gave me a taste for her writing and eventually lead me to her Play by Play series, which I am a big fan of.

The Heart of a Killer is one of those books that I read quickly and enjoyed but left no real lasting impression. Anna and Dante are both likable characters. I love stories about reunited lovers so it was fun watching them learn each other again. The chemistry was good and the buildup of twelve years of sexual longing created a lot of great tension between Dante and Anna.

While there were some interesting twists and turns, I didn't find the mystery to be very suspenseful. There were a few red herrings but I could see right through them. I figured out who the killer was before the end and didn't really buy the motive.

I don’t think The Heart of the Killer is one of Burton’s best and was an enjoyable but forgettable read. This would be a good book for an afternoon on the beach or a bit of light vacation reading.

*I received this book free of charge from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This, in no way, affected my opinion or review of this book.

Coming Home again is always a hard thing to do. Just ask Dante Renaldi. Coming back to a town he ran from many years ago escaping trouble. Only to have that trouble come right back to him and the "family" he left behind. Is he Black Ops, FBI or just a trouble maker? He is now trying to protect his brothers and lost love from a sadistic killer who may have witnessed the incident from their youth.

I enjoyed the storyline. Dante and Anna worked well together. I would love to see a story or book for Gabe's character. The story itself was quick paced and kept me up well past my bedtime to finish. Jaci Burton is definitely on my "go to" list of authors for great romantic suspense.

What Jaci Burton does though, makes you as a reader go. WHOA, I wasn't expecting it to be that character. I had to re-read a few sentences in the book to make sure I got the killer's name right. I couldn't believe it. I think that is what made me interested in this book the most.
I recommend this book to all the romantic suspense lovers out there. As for the usual readers who love paranormal romance and are expecting some major heated love scenes remember, not every author is the same. Jaci Burton is a fantastic author. I definitely liked this book, but it wasn't my fave of the year. I do look forward to the next book in the series and hope the next character Jaci writes about is Gabe. He had a mystery to him, and I want to know why he chose the job he did in this book after that attack 12 years ago. I think he's hiding something.

I didn't know what to write about this book and I still kind of don't. It was the perfect balance of thriller/suspense and romance. I loved it. It was heartbreaking but hopeful. It was exhilarating and calming. I was enthralled from start to finish.

I loved this book! Fast paced, realistic, I didn't know who the killer was until (you'll have to read it yourself), hot cover photo, too!

It looks like I might be coming out of my romantic suspense funk. I really enjoyed this. It's a gripping tale filled with twists and turns. I suspected the killer early on but enjoyed watching the rest figure it out.

The main - and secondary - characters were well written. Anna annoyed me at times, but then so did Dante.

Burton balanced the suspense and romance perfectly. Fans of her more erotic romance titles might be disappointed - there isn't a lot of sex here. Personally I think that worked in the context of the story and didn't take away from the romance at all.

Overall a well written, chilling suspense flavored with the perfect amount of romance.
