Michael Crichton wrote a bunch of crime novel pot boilers under a pen name and this is one of them. Pulpy stuff to be sure, and very much a product of it's time and demographic. The men are men and the women are ... there, I guess. The plot's a basic heist story. Still, it moves along and if you need something light and silly to soothe your post holiday brain that won't challenge you, this is it.

I'll be honest, I'm on a mission to read basically everything Michael Crichton ever wrote, include stuff under this pen name, John Lange.
This is a quick, easy read. It's barely two-hundred pages. If you spend time to read it, you can finish it in a few hours. The pacing is a bit too quick, you never really get attached to the characters (or remember which one does what job and how they met or anything like that). It's a simple idea, with not too many twists and turns. The ending was a bit dull, but I still enjoyed it. It's definitely something that he didn't try that hard on, seeing as he wrote these books to pay his way through college. It is fun, however, to see how his writing progressed over the years.

3.5 rounded to 4 for Goodreads.
This is actually my first Michael Crichton book, and he's writing as John Lange while attending Harvard and before Jurassic Park. I picked it because I love books set in Egypt and this cover is awesome.
Overall, this was a fun, lighthearted, wholesome read. It's a tomb heist book, so the whole first third of the book is gathering/meeting the team and setting up the plans. I really liked all the characters in this story and the whole time I was really rooting for them.
There wasn't anything particularly astounding or groundbreaking in this book. It was just plain old fun with great writing and characters. It also had a feel-good ending, which was just what I needed right now!

Honestly, the first half of this book was expendable. A chapter was devoted to introducing each character and in the end I still didn't feel like I knew any of them. From when they found the tomb and on was interesting, but that was only about 50 pages. Worth a read if you're a fan of Crichton.
