An Astonishing & Heart Melting Journey for the Prez & First Lady...
"After Glow" is the second half of Rock and Hope's story leading up to Gracie. It is Autumn Jones Lake's 14th installment and 11th full-length novel of her Lost Kings MC series, and the 5th full book devoted to Rock and Hope. Who, after reading this one, have cemented themselves deep into my heart. I simply cannot get enough of them! My love for these two truthfully quadruped over the course of this book. Their unbreakable devotion to each other, their Lost Kings (LOKI) family, and what they believe in is heart melting. Their fierce determination to protect what's theirs, simply stunning. And Rochlan, my god the integrity and loyalty contained within this man, truly astounding.
Honestly Lake's depiction of Rochlan over the course of this series has had me believing in book boyfriends for the first time ever. But this book, her writing here with this story, stomped on my "awwww" and protective "mama bear" triggers so hard, it has pretty much ruined me for any other man. Especially were it pertained to his reactions and actions surrounding what Lake does to him here.
I swear, if I didn't already believe in the excellence that is Autumn Lake's writing, this book cements her place in my mind as an MC genre literary genius. Because here, as if Rock and Hope alone weren't enough to cleave readers chests wide open. As if the care, protection, and loyalty the rest of the LOKI crew devote to Hope and each other isn't heart squeezing enough. The twist Lake places within this second half, instantly explodes your soul and makes you instantly realize just how great a writer Lake truly is.
My god what a story! I was NOT prepared for the turn of events occuring within this installment. Because while it initially moves nicely along the path of Hope and Rock preparing for Gracie, tying up this latest path for them. And then slowly changing gears, and setting up future books with a bunch of delicious plot tidbits and breadcrumbs. Lake suddenly stops short, slaps your swooning self awake, and almost casually lobs a gigantic bombshell into Hope and Rock's lap, literally giving you literary whiplash!
However, frustratingly, after the initial dust settles, there is no real conclusion to it. After the nerve-wracking, nail-biting, build-up to this one astonishing reveal moment, no real resolution happens. The whole chunk is just sort of put on the back burner to simmer and not looked at again. Something, that for an impatient, heart-on-my-sleeve soul like myself, was maddening. And then as I was desperately seeking a conclusion to this first astounding perdiciment and grumbling under my breath at her about the meanness of her making me wait again. Lake casually stands up from the book page, whispers "hold my beer", and then proceeds to drop ANOTHER revelation!
As if the first truth bomb wasn't enough to drive me bonkers, she folds in an epilogue that gives you one of the biggest - W.T.F. - moments of the entire series. It's a true, "HOLY CRAP" moment. But one that confirmed for me something I was honestly already curious about, and suspicious of, for several books now. And one, that honestly has me worried for Lilly and the possible rage and murderous intent that my very well be heading her way in the next few books.
However, as big as the epilogue twist is. It still didn't make me forget about the lack of resolution for Rock and the first bombshell. SO, I am truly, truly hoping this bit continues in Z's books, because if not, I may very well go insane waiting!

Holly molly! I did NOT see that coming! Wow. These books just keep getting better and better. That was crazy good! I laughed, I cried, I jumped out of my chair after the DNA results and screamed “WHAT?!”, it was a rollercoaster! And the epilogue?! OH. MY. GOD! I can’t wait for Z and Lilly’s story!

A beautiful conclusion to another duet by this lovely author. Questions were answered and now the surprise of the next up-and-coming novel is keeping readers intrigued!
