A collection of short, powerful remembrances of a number of the men with whom Levi's life intersected in Auschwitz, some of whom he even managed to track down in later life. Each of the stories is another reminder by Levi - whom I consider among the very best chroniclers of the Holocaust - of the good and evil that may reside within all humanity at its darkest moments.

I read Moments of Reprieve for a Jewish Studies course on the holocaust. The first half of this book depicted firsthand accounts of the author witnessing acts of kindness or strength of character despite overwhelming odds. The second half lost some focus, giving secondhand accounts.

Incredible portraits of some of the complicated characters Levi encountered or heard about in the camps. He brings out the humanity in people who commit evil, and more so than in his prior two Auschwitz memoirs, shows the glimmers of goodness and hope that peaked through in hell.

A classic is a book that is never finished saying what it wants to say. Warm, wise, human, profound, and timely all the time.

Brief, compelling sketches of people the author encountered while a prisoner in Auschwitz. This is a follow up to his earlier books [b:If This Is a Man / The Truce|6181|If This Is a Man / The Truce|Primo Levi|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1352245530s/6181.jpg|43004540], which I now have to read.

I've been wanting to sink my teeth into Levi for a long time now and I finally have. And a beautiful book to be my 75th of the year, the book that marks the end and successful completion of my target.
I was absorbed completely in this. He is a gifted writer and as a survivor of the Holocaust, how can you not have the upmost respect for him? Levi is thoughtful and each of the characters and stories he tells in this seem so deeply moving and powerful that I am sure I will not forget this book, or any of his others when I come to read them. I agree with Calvino - Levi is vitally important.
